Why are these not World Wonders

It was from a poem of Antipater of Sidon, a Greek epigrammist that became the most popular version in highlighting the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, amidst countless other versions and entries of world’s best attractions.

Take a moment to enjoy a glimpse of these wonderful creations eons and eons of time. Unique on its own, these spectacular attractions are some of the iconic landmarks in the world.

These mind-blowing and brilliant wonders miss the privilege of being World Wonders. There have been numerous versions throughout history on selecting the world wonders and list of entries. The most popular of all versions, stand in the forefront of being the World Wonders. Therefore, the following list of wonders can be another version of a traveller’s list, which surprising did not qualify to be World Wonders.

The Atlas Mountains
Stretching across Africa, the Atlas Mountains is a renowned mountain range. Home to a rich biodiversity of fauna and flora, which is unique to Africa, the Atlas Mountains are a spectacular sight! Extending to through several countries such as Algiers and Tunisia, the highest peak is Toubkal. It is also abundantly filled with rich natural resources found at Atlas such as lead ore, iron ore, copper and rock salt.

Stonehenge
One of the most well-known pre-historic monuments in the world, Stonehenge is an iconic landmark in Wiltshire, England. Attracting large crowds of visitors for its history, unique setting and geography, it is among the top visited sites in the world. Declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a place of religious prominence and a popular site for pilgrimages.

Teotihuacan
Located at the corner of the Mexico City, Teotihuacan is a pre-Columbian Mesoamerican city, which is supposedly established around 100 BC. This is among the top most visited archaeological sites in Mexico, it is also declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tourists visit this amazing place of interest for the magnificent architectural styles. A well-planned and built city, it was noted that the Aztecs may have been influenced by Teotihuacan.

Brooklyn Bridge
Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1964, this is one of the oldest suspension bridges in United Sates. An iconic sight and a renowned landmark, the bridge was formerly known as ‘New York and Brooklyn Bridge’. The bridge features a neo-gothic architectural style and spans 1,595.5 feet. It was designed by a German immigrant, John Augustus Roebling and was also one of the scenic drives one can enjoy while in New York.

Monolithic Maoi
The famous monolithic human figures in Ester Islands are among the most interesting and mysterious archaeological discoveries in the world. The tallest of all the Maoi is Paro which is close to 33 feet in height and weighs around 82 tonnes. There were more than 887 statues which have been transported and set on stone platforms around the island.

Acropolis
Popularly known as ‘Acropolis’, it is home to some of the major architectural remains, which serves as top attractions in Greece. Parthenon, Old Temple of Athena, Theatre of Dionysus Eleuthereus, Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheum and Propylea are fascinating structures that are scattered in Acropolis. This citadel is nestled on a hilltop in the city of Athens and has been renowned for the architectural brilliance and historical significance.

Palm Islands
An artificial archipelago, located off the coast of Persian Gulf, Dubai is best viewed on air. Each settlement of the island takes the shape of a palm tree, with a crescent on top. Each of these beautiful islands will boasts a series of attractions including luxurious shopping precincts, theme parks, marinas, sports facilities and mind-blowing health spas, residential areas, leisure and entertainment centers. There are three Palm Islands in Dubai namely Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira.

The Hagia Sophia
A one of a kind attraction in Istanbul, it was formerly a Greek orthodox Basilica, which turned to a mosque and now, transformed to a museum. Featuring an amazing history of Hagia Sophia, it is noteworthy for one of the best surviving examples of Byzantine architecture. The intricate designs, rich decorations and artistic touch keep Hagia Sophia on top of every traveller’s itinerary.
