Virtual tours that make your 2020 Halloween better!

Halloween’s different this year…to no one’s surprise. So we’re listing out the five best virtual tours you need to look out for spine-chilling 2020

The Stanley Hotel

Warning: The following sentences are going to be me fanboying over The Shining. If you haven’t watched the movie, read the book, or just don’t appreciate it – skip.

The hotel is supposedly haunted by Mr. Stanley, whose apparition reportedly appeared to guests checking in at the reception desk. Next, guests have claimed that the phantom of the late Flora Stanley can be heard in the empty music room. The hotel also received reports of a spectral chambermaid hovering above the beds of unmarried guests. Single men have also woken up to find their bags packed and left outside their door. After a while, it was identified that this spirit goes by the name Mrs. Wilson.

I would be surprised if you haven’t heard of The Stanley Hotel. It’s practically impossible to not be aware of this nightmare fuelling hotel. You see, room 217 is basically a horror movie itself. The hallways are eerie & every other place in the hotel makes you feel like you’re being watched – it’s beautiful. The book was great, the movie was incredible, and the virtual tour is…not the greatest. However, when there’s a pandemic, you take what you can, and this virtual tour does what it needs to do.

The Queen Mary

If there’s anything better than a ship, it’s definitely a haunted ship.

…And the Queen Mary does an admirable job at being one of the most haunted ships in the world. Yeah, in the world.

In this ship, you’re not going to see two star-crossed lovers named Jack and Rose being in love. Instead, you’ll see orbs, shadows standing at the end of your bed, hear doors that slam shut out of nowhere, and oh, faint whispers and screams. We can’t miss that. Oh, they also have something called the isolation ward. Anything with a name like that is code for “haunted”. So if you ever get to visit in person – stay away.

All in all, this virtual tour is sure to be an experience away from the usual.

The Lizzie Borden House

Storytime – on August 4th, 1892, Andrew Borden and his wife, Abby Borden were brutally murdered in their own house by who many believe to be Lizzie Borden. The daughter of Andrew and Sarah Borden, his first wife. Both of the victims were attacked not more than half an hour apart by a hatchet-like weapon. This made the wounds devastatingly fatal and left their bodies sinking in their own blood. I know, dark right?

Anyways, after this incident, Lizzie’s only achievement in life was in her being a suspected murderer. But the house actually went on to become a popular tourist attraction. (Cool. Cause that’s where everybody’s mind goes when they’re deciding what to do with a house that hosted two murders). With everything that’s going on, you can’t even think about visiting the place for yourself. However, taking a virtual tour of the very same house is possible. Plus, who knows? Maybe once this is all over, you can visit the site for yourself and ask Andrew or Abby who did it. My bet’s on Lizzie, just so you know.

There’s even a creepy poem that was inspired by the murder.

“Lizzie Borden took an ax
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one”

I mean, I love a good catchy rhyme, but it’s still creepy.

The Bran Castle

Ever wanted to get up close and personal with Dracula’s lair? Well, now you can, virtually, of course. I’m sure travelling to Romania is the last thing anyone has in mind right now. So, enjoy the myth, history, and ancient revelry with a virtual tour that’s fit for a 2020 Halloween. Browse through the long corridors, timeless rooms, and unravel the frightful vibe of the castle through your screen.

The Winchester Mystery House

The Winchester Mystery House is just so enigmatic and mind-boggling. But in case you didn’t know, this is how the story went!

After losing both her husband and baby daughter, Sarah Winchester reportedly contacted a psychic. When questioned about all of the unfortunate events that had happened to her, she was met with a disturbing answer. Now, apparently, the medium told her that she would be haunted by the spirits of those who fell under the success of the Winchester rifles. The psychic continued that If she wanted to be free of these spirits, she would have to move west and continue building her house.

This is what many believe to be the story of this landmark. Many tourists have reported paranormal activity & have speculated over the odd structure of the house. The mansion is coated with staircases leading to dead ends, hidden rooms (that are yet to be found) & a doorway that leads to nowhere – except for a scream-worthy drop into the yard far below.

But the best part is that you don’t even have to visit this house. You can just have full access to it through a virtual tour. So, get ready to scroll through the hallways of the famed mansion and its equally daunting backstory from your couch.
