UK Travel Corridors List: The Canary Islands removed and two added

Although, the UK Travel Industry celebrated the news of many countries being added to the UK Travel Corridors last month. The new UK Travel corridor update by Secretary of State for Transport has left the UK Travel Industry in dismay.

According to the tweet, Shapps has stated that,

“Data indicates weekly cases and positive tests are increasing in the CANARY ISLANDS, and so we are REMOVING them from the #TravelCorridor list to reduce the risk of importing COVID-19. From 4 am Sat December 12, if you arrive from these islands, you WILL need to self-isolate.”

He also added that,

“BOTSWANA and SAUDI ARABIA have been ADDED to the #TravelCorridor list. If you arrive from these places after 4 am Sat December 12 you do NOT need to self-isolate.”

Does this apply to all the Canary Islands?

Yes. The rule applies to anyone from Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canarias. Passengers from any one of these Islands will be forced to self-isolate for five days from Saturday.

What about Brits returning from the Canary Islands to the UK?

They will need to self-isolate for five days, and also submit a negative COVID-19 test result.

Grant Shapps has made this evident in another tweet made by him, that confirms,

“From Tues 15th, the new ‘Test to Release’ service for passengers arriving in England starts. This means that all passengers from any location NOT in a Travel Corridor may “opt-in” to shorten self-isolation to 5 days with a negative COVID-19 test result from specific providers.”

How much do these tests cost?

Since passengers are expected to take tests on both days, day one and day five, it will cost between £65 and £125.

Can we plan our visit to the Canary Islands from the UK any time soon?

Information on this is not updated as of yet, given that the situation in the Canary Islands or Spain, as a whole is uncertain.

However, from Travel Center, we would advise you to stay up-to-date with our news updates and also, the latest updates from the GOV.UK’s UK travel corridors.

What is the Pandemic situation in Spain, like?

The situation in Spain, unfortunately, is not at ease. It has more than 1.7m cases of coronavirus reported overall, including nearly 5,000 new cases and 186 deaths yesterday (December 10).

What countries are still on the list of UK Travel Corridors?

You can get the whole list of countries in the Travel Corridors from the GOV.UK’s official website. Be informed that these travel corridors are often updated.

When you can't find me travelling, you'll either find me buried in some fictional destination that I see in a book or one that I had created myself. That is pretty much about me, a brown girl who was born to read and write. So what inspired me to write about and for travelling? I'd say, Mark Twain, for his description of the voyages or Paulo Coelho for his pilgrimages, and the list would go on. But in reality, it is the fact that I was born in the hill-country! The wet roads, the fog, the greenery, and the never-ending supply of fresh coffee has always kept me introverted to observe the little things about the world, and these, you will find in all my writings. Oh, and I also bond well over movies, cats, and love cooking!
