Holidays to Ecuador under threat as authority’s advice against travel

Ecuador has been constantly praised by travellers for many of the attributes that make it a popular tourist destination. But in light of recent events, the country is reeling from a fortnight of violent protests that have left 7 dead.

Following the unfortunate incident, The Foreign Office (FCO) is advising against all but essential travel to the South American country. It is hoped that the restrictions will be lifted soon after the president of Ecuador said that the government would cancel the measures that caused the unrest in the first place.

However, because tensions are still high, it is heavily encouraged that travellers think twice before visiting the country as The Foreign Office took it upon themselves to illuminate the precarious situation in which travellers could sadly find themselves in. Pointing out that they might get caught up in between the on-going feud, especially on the border province of Esmeraldas, where the FCO says the security situation can change very quickly and visitors should be cautious.

The reason this is stressed upon is that according to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) statistics have revealed that Ecuador, despite being smaller than many of its neighbours, attracts a significant number of British and other visitors from all over the world every year, which means there are higher chances of tourists getting injured.

As of right now, there have not been any reports of tourists who have been injured but there are many claims that support the FCO’S notion and have said that the situation is highly volatile and could turn life-threatening at any time. If you have booked a trip to Ecuador and are in need of assistance with rescheduling or changing destinations, don’t hesitate to contact the Travel Center.
