Holiday hacks & Travel tips: Ways to make your holiday better

I think you’ll agree with me when I say that going on a holiday can be a real struggle, but it doesn’t have to be! Try these clever holiday hacks & travel tips to simplify everything about your holiday.

Holiday hacks

After a rather harsh and disorderly year, the need for a proper break is crucially needed to shield ourselves from work burnout.

And since there was not much travelling, the odds are that we need a holiday!

For the majority of us, working from home is the new norm. However, it doesn’t improve work-life balance for most of us, resulting in feeling stressed and frustrated.

That’s why we have come up with some of the best holiday hacks that reveal how you can strategically plan and stretch your annual leave by using upcoming long weekends and bank holidays to maximise holidays in 2022.

How to hack and maximise your holidays in 2022

Here’s how you can bag a whopping 54 days of holiday in 2022 by taking just 22 days of annual leave while taking advantage of the Bank Holiday weekends.

  • January Holidays

January is already behind us, but let’s do a small recap on how you can get an idea on how to hack your 2022 holidays.

Book off: 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th of January

Get off: 1st, 2nd, 8th & 9th being the weekend and the 3rd Monday a bank holiday.

Total days off: 10

  • April Holidays

The next break is in April – If you book your break at the beginning of the holy week with the weekends on either side of those, you can get a total of ten days off of work for Easter Holidays!

Book off: 19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd of April

Get off: 16th, 17th, 23rd & 24th being the weekend, the 15th being Good Friday & the 18th being Easter Monday.

Total days off: 10

  • May Holidays

Next comes summer, and who doesn’t love a good summer break? Well, then this summer, you’re in for a treat! There are some excellent opportunities to take the time you need to relax and recover with some more planning in May and June.

Book off: 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th of May

Get off: 30th April, 1st May (May Day), 7th & 8th of May being the weekends.

Total days off: 8

  • June Holidays

There is more! There are even more holidays at the end of May and as a bonus, the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration holiday has been pushed back to the 2nd of June, giving you 9 days off if you take leave on the 30th, 31st of May and the 1st of June.

Book off: 30th, 31st of May & 1st of June

Get off: 28th, 29th of May, 4th, 5th of June being the weekend, 2nd & 3rd June.

Total days off: 9

That’s a total of 37 days of leave, and the best part is that we are still in June!

  • August Holidays

Now we move on to August, where you can take a total of nine days away from the desk. With a bank holiday is on Monday the 29th, you only have to book off from the 30th, 31st of August, the 1st and 2nd of September.

Book off: 30th, 31st of August & 1st, 2nd September

Get off: 27th, 28th of August & 3rd, 4th of September being the weekend, 29th August being a bank holiday.

Total days off: 9

  • December Holidays

Arguably the best of the holiday hacks falls during the most wonderful time of the year. And that’s my favourite time of the year, Christmas time!

Pro Tip: The best advice I can give on booking time off in December is to apply for leave as early as possible.

You can book off the 28th, 29th and 30th of December and still have 8 days off in total. That includes Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and all the days in between. Now isn’t that something to look forward to?

Book off: 28th, 29th & 30th of December

Get off: 24th December Christmas Eve, 25th December Christmas day, 26th December Boxing Day, 27th December Bank holiday, 31st December New Years Eve & 1st January New Year’s Day.

Total days off: 9

There’s a total of 55 days of holidays with only 22 days of annual leave! Isn’t it amazing that you can do wonders with a bit of planning?

However, these holiday hacks will only work if you’re not on contract to work on Bank Holidays or weekends.
