Holi-yay: the only destination with zero travel restrictions for Brits!

Holi-yay: the only destination with zero travel restrictions for Brits!

Several countries are tightening their grip around protective measures to keep the pandemic at bay. With the almost month-long lockdown in full swing, it seems as if there is only one country left open for Brits to go on a holiday with zero travel restrictions.

Ever thought of visiting Gibraltar? If you have, the good news! Gibraltar is the only location in the world with no travel restrictions or quarantine rules for Brits.

One other destination to belong to this list included the Canary Islands. Unfortunately, the tourist magnet of a destination is enforcing newer rules from the 14th of November (Saturday).

Countries like Cyprus, Maldives, and Greece have also followed suit. Implementing more travel restrictions to increase barriers to entry for tourists in the hopes that the virus can be contained.

Other popular destinations, including Portugal and Turkey, are also no longer restriction free, as they both require a two-week quarantine back in the UK.

Therefore, visiting Gibraltar is not only convenient due to the lack of travel restrictions and quarantine rules, but it also makes for a stellar holiday destination. From bright blue skies and ocean view escapades, Gibraltar is a dream come true, especially at a time like this.

Travel restrictions

As of right now, the only procedure you need to go through is to fill in a passenger locator form, which can be swiftly done at the airport. However, the same “zero travel restrictions” policy doesn’t apply to non-UK arrivals visiting Gibraltar.

To elaborate, if you are a non-UK arrival visiting Gibraltar, then it will be mandatory for you to self-isolate for five days, with a test on day one & day five.

However, things do seem to be getting better!

Regardless of the countless travel restrictions and quarantine rules, there seems to be progress being made.

According to Grant Shapps, the Transport Secretary of the UK – the Taskforce is looking forward to slashing the quarantine to around a week, & although the exact timescale has yet to be announced, this will mean that quarantine rules in the UK would become less strict.

The new scheme will see passengers paying for a test after they arrive in the UK, taking it four or five days after arrival, and if it is negative, it removes the need for quarantine.

Speaking to the Airport Operators Association this morning, Shapps continued saying: “I want you to know that we are making very good progress on a test to release programme to launch, once we’re out of this lockdown.”

“This will consist of a single test for arrivals into the UK provided by the private sector, and at the cost to the passenger, allowing us a much-reduced period of self-isolation.”

In conclusion, if you can’t beat the anticipation of going on holiday in December, then your best bet of being at ease is by visiting Gibraltar. Here, you’ll be left unscathed by the quarantine rules that seem to be swarming every other place right now.
