Green list countries update – Latest destinations announced for UK travel

The UK government announced the latest updates to its traffic light system for foreign travel. 11 Countries and territories have been on the green list countries until today, indicating that there is no need to quarantine when arriving in the UK from any of these destinations after providing a negative COVID-19 test.

However, the UK government has now approved a further 15 destinations to the green list countries. The Prime Minister approved the resumption of holidays overseas to some leading holiday destinations. Boris Jhonson also stated a much broader resumption of foreign travel during late summer, providing that they have had both jabs for Covid-19.

Grant Shapps confirmed that people entering the UK from 16 destinations on the green list countries would not have to quarantine starting from 04:00 on 30 June. He also said that it is right to continue with this cautious approach, to protect public health and the vaccine rollout as first preference while assuring that the route out of the foreign travel restrictions is maintainable. 

Below is the full green list countries and green watchlist of destinations where there is no need for quarantine to enter the UK:

  • Australia
  • Brunei
  • Falkland Islands
  • Faroe Islands
  • Gibraltar
  • Iceland
  • Israel and Jerusalem
  • New Zealand
  • South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands
  • Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha
  • Singapore

New additions to the green list :

  • Anguilla (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Antigua and Barbuda (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Balearic Islands (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Barbados (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Bermuda (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • British Antarctic Territory (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • British Indian Ocean Territory (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • The British Virgin Islands (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Cayman Islands (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Dominica (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Grenada (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Madeira (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Malta (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Montserrat (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Pitcairn Islands (from 04:00, 30 June)
  • Turks and Caicos Islands (from 04:00, 30 June)

The travel industry broadly welcomed the additions to the green list countries and urged the government to take it further.

Meanwhile, The Department for Transport also stated that it plans to dismiss isolation for those who are fully vaccinated and coming from amber list countries.

Anyone entering the UK from an amber country has to home-quarantine for 10 days.

The department also mentioned that it plans to scrap guidelines which states that people should not travel to amber list countries.

The statement states that more detailed information will be provided next month, including the guidelines for children and those unable to be vaccinated. However, according to the latest UK travel news, six destinations have been updated to the government’s red list countries, where travellers arriving in the UK will have to quarantine for 10 days in a hotel.
