Five Greek islands exempt from the UK quarantine list

Earlier today, the Transport Secretary, Mr. Grant Shapps, announced that five Greek islands had been removed from the UK quarantine list. So, starting from 4 am on Saturday the 10th of October, any traveller returning to England from the Greek islands of Lesbos, Santorini, Serifos, Tinos, and Zakynthos will no longer have to self-isolate for the recommended 14 days, due to the decreasing number of Covid-19 cases. However, the travel restrictions placed on Zante, Crete, Mykonos remain. It is also worth noting that the residents of Scotland will not be able to visit anywhere in Greece without self-isolating back on the homeland.


Other destinations that are not being taken out from the UK quarantine list

No other country will be taken out of the current UK quarantine list, and the travel checklist and restrictions have not changed for any other destination. 

Travelling to Germany, Sweden and Italy also remain quarantine-free zones. However, as of today, visitors from Britain travelling to Italy must abide by the travel restrictions. A compulsory coronavirus test should be taken 72 hours prior, and evidence has to be provided of a negative Covid-19 test. Visitors who are incapable of providing proof of a negative result at the border have to take a free test on arrival. Travellers who test positive will quarantined until two back-to-back negative results are recorded. 

UK quarantine list

Travellers visiting Germany from Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and northern England must do the COVID-19 test as well. Germany, (this is with exceptions), Greece (excluding Scotland), Gibraltar, and Sweden are countries that are stated on the UK quarantine list, which are free of travel restrictions. However, travellers will have to pay for a private Covid-19 test and/or self-isolate for a short period of time in destinations such as Barbados, Madeira, Grenada, Cyprus, and St Lucia.
