Coronavirus: An infected person found in Tenerife hotel; lockdown with 1000 people

An Italian doctor found positive of Coronavirus in Tenerife in the Canary Islands according to Monday’s statement of the region’s health authorities. The patient was a tourist on a holiday when the Spanish media Elmundi reported the condition.

The reported number of 1000 people have held at the H10 Costa Adeje Palace hotel when the authorities found him infected. Also, this destination is popular among British tourists, who put into quarantine. The police decided to seize the hotel with high security without any ins and outs as an immediate action. Still, it is impossible to determine if the hotel is in lockdown because of the parent company official’s lack of immediate availability.

According to the Canary Island’s authority’s statement,

“The patient is currently being kept in isolation and his test results will be sent to Madrid for a second analysis, as per Spain’s protocol in suspected coronavirus cases.”

The patient is from the Lombardy region of Italy, and he has been staying six days at the hotel with his wife. He was transferred into an isolation unit after the private clinic check-ups due to high fever.

Canary Islands President Angel Victor Torres said,

“This afternoon the coronavirus protocol has been activated for an Italian tourist in the south of Tenerife. The result from the first test carried out in the Canaries is positive. Tomorrow new tests will take place in Madrid. The patient has been quarantined.”

The regional health authority’s spokesman said,

“The protocol states that a second test must take place at the National Microbiology Centre at the Carlos III Health Institute in Madrid. The patient has been quarantined and is under the care of health workers.”

Only three positive cases have reported in Spain, and he is the third person to be found among them, and the others are a British man found in Mallorca on February 9th and a German man found on the Canary Island of La Gomera on February 1st.

Moreover, the sand storm prevented tourists from leaving the island earlier this week, and many tourists decided to extend their stay caused by the weather chaos. Corona Virus emergency number for the Canary Islands: (+34) 900112061
