Bangkok’s Batcat Museum Is Simply More Than Just Toys

What has become a hobby for the 39 year old Somchay Nitimongkolchai, has turned into a museum filled with toys, figurines, costumes and masks

The name derived from Batman and Catwoman although the museum displays a variety of everything of toys. Inspiration for Batman collection hit hard after the blockbuster movie release of ‘Batman Begins’ in year 2005. At first, the interest revolved around Batman and expanded into collecting vintage versions, limited editions and the vehicles that were dating back as far as the 1960s.

Sources of the collection are amazing with seventy percent from eBay, 20 percent from collectors in Thailand and 10 percent from collectors in Japan. Further motley assortment of toys for his collection came from his travelling around the world.

At present there are around 50,000 pieces making it one of the largest in the world and definitely the biggest in Thailand. Children’s favourite toys of past and present of all shapes and sizes, themes and colours mesmerize the museums. The museum features cool wall murals, superhero themed souvenirs, Star Trek style sliding doors and life size maquettes. From GI Joe, The Simpsons, Iron Man, Shrek to Looney Tunes, Disney, Dukes of Hazzard, Alien, Predator and more.

Somchay’s primary goal is to be an owner of 100,000 collectibles by the year 2032 and start an auction.
