A virtual tour takeover: 5 experiences to get you through quarantine!

A virtual tour takeover: 5 experiences to get you through quarantine!

The world was once wrapped around our finger like a ring and now, after a very infectious break up, we’re all stuck in our houses, mostly eating anything we can find and binge-watching Netflix. Here’s the thing, as great as Netflix is, you’re bound to start thinking “what else can I do?” after some point. This is where taking virtual tours come into play – it’s convenient, mostly available at all times and all it takes is a click instead of a trip that could possibly endanger your life.

Also, let’s be honest, you’re much more likely to scroll down on your phone than read a novel, stress about curating a healthy meal or exercise, unless of course, you’re a gym freak or you care about yourself unlike me.

With that being said, let’s dive in and see what we have for you to escape the everyday blues we’re all facing right now!

1. The Lizzie Borden House

Story time – on August 4th, 1892, Andrew Borden and his wife, Abby Borden were brutally murdered in their own house by who many believe to be Lizzie Borden, the daughter of Andrew and Sarah Borden, his first wife. Both of the victims were attacked not more than half an hour apart by a hatchet-like weapon that left their bodies sinking in their own blood. I know, dark right?

Anyways, after this incident, Lizzie’s only achievement in life was being a suspected murderer and the house went on to become a popular tourist attraction (Cool. Cause that’s where everybody’s mind goes when they’re deciding what to do with a house that had two brutal murders in it). With everything that’s going on, you can’t even think about visiting, but taking a virtual tour of the very same house is possible. Plus, who knows? Maybe once this is all over, you can visit the site for yourself and ask Andrew or Abby who did it.

There’s even a creepy poem that was inspired by the murder

“Lizzie Borden took an ax
And gave her mother forty whacks.
When she saw what she had done
She gave her father forty-one”

I love a good catchy rhyme, but it’s still creepy.

2.The Louvre

Paintings here, paintings there, paintings everywhere! That kind of sums up The Louvre, but while visiting the largest art museum in the world is wonderful, frustrating and hectic all at once, taking a virtual tour lets you skip the long hazardous queues without starting a fist fight.

In addition, The Louvre also marks some of the best art in existence – including the Mona Lisa, The Raft of the Medusa, The Seated Scribe and much more. Sure, visiting it in person would be surreal, but for right now let’s just focus on what we have, and maybe get a glimpse of what you would be in for if you decide to visit the attraction once everything goes back to normal.

3. The Palace of Versailles

From its breath-taking gardens to daydream worthy interior, The Palace of Versailles is a celebration of everything majestic. On your virtual tour, you’ll be swept away into full view of the lavish architecture, eye-arresting murals and the famous hall of mirrors. Which means this decadent emblem of royal extravagance makes your time in quarantine better with nothing but a mere sight of everything it has to offer. So yeah, feel free to drop in and say hi to the Palace of Versailles through your screen. It’s worth it.

4. The Winchester Mystery House

Yes, I thought about ending it with the gloomy attractions but I can’t help it, The Winchester Mystery House is just so enigmatic and mind-boggling. The story goes that after losing both her husband, and baby daughter, Sarah Winchester reportedly contacted a psychic who told her that she would be haunted by the spirits of those who fell under the success of the Winchester rifles, and that she had to move west and continue building her house as a way of appeasing these entities.

This is what many believe to be the story of this landmark. Many tourists have reported paranormal activity and have speculated over the odd structure of the house – as the mansion is coated with staircases leading to dead ends, doorways to nowhere and hidden rooms (that are yet to be found).

But the best part is that you don’t even have to visit this house, you can have full virtual access to it and scroll through the hallways of the famed mansion and its equally daunting backstory from your couch.

Every item on display belongs to somebody’s ex, and all of the items represent a story of its own – letting you drown in heartbreaking symbolism and find out what led to the eventual goodbyes of these star-crossed lovers.
