The Dominican Republic Announces Protocols for the Reactivation of Tourism.

Dominican Republic – July 1st, 2020 – The Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) announced the safety procedures to be followed by all tourism workers and institutions to help ensure the health of tourists and natives similarly. The documents, which could be downloaded from the Ministry’s website detail the precautions and extra security measures that would be put into practice beginning July 1st, the date on which tourism was reactivated.

To guarantee secure and well-organized air travel to the country, extra procedures will be applied at airports. This starts with upon arrival, all passengers will have their temperature checked as they get off the plane. If a passenger records a temperature over 100.6 °F degrees (38 °C) or shows any other symptoms, airport authorities will run a quick COVID-19 test and initiate the procedures for isolation and treatment of the case. Additionally, airport terminals have initiated guidelines requiring social distancing and also the compulsory use of face masks for staff and passengers. As part of immigration and customs forms offered by the airline or by Dominican authorities, passengers will be required to fill out and present a Traveler’s Health Affidavit. Through this form, passengers state that they have not felt any COVID-19 linked symptoms in the last 72 hours and offer contact information for the following 30 days.

This natural theme park’s limestone landscape and immaculate jungle offer several spectacular sights and hikes – and there are historical appeals too. The Farallon Cliff stretches 800 metres beside the coast, while there’s also a concealed cenote, caves and a Zipline. The purpose of the park was also to welcome the cultural legacy and customs of Latin America and the Caribbean – with model homes of the historic Taino Indians, who lived in the land before the Conquistadors arrived.

Explore Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park

An ecological park and reserve unfurled over 1,500 acres of the subtropical jungle. This region is privately owned but devoted to preservation and scientific study. Visitors could take delight in the 12 freshwater coves, five of which are available for swimming. Guama Lagoon is 26 feet deep and plenty of tourists enjoying diving off the platform here – definitely one for the GoPro.

Situated in the middle of the waters of Playa Blanca and Playa Serena in Punta Cana, the Igneri Caribe Taino Underwater Museum makes for an exceptional snorkelling and cultural location, with depths perfect for beginners. Produced by award-winning Dominican artist Thimo Pimentel, 22 statues portraying indigenous Taino figures are found underwater, immersed at three to seven meters (10-23 feet). Corals were planted around these statues to offer a home for fish, which snorkellers can see circling and swimming past these enormous Taino figures.

Go on a catamaran trip to a natural aquarium, packed with aquatic life. With underwater scuba gear, a mixture of snorkelling and scuba diving, which doesn’t need certification- Seaquarium provides an opportunity for families to travel securely into the glorious world of the Caribbean Sea. Go on a Fun Fun Cave Exploration

Our 8th spot goes out to Rancho Capote’s Fun Fun Cave. A trip for the dedicated adventurers who don’t mind getting filthy and putting their physical abilities to the test. You would drive down to Rancho Capote where you will get on a horse to get to the entrance of the cave for you to climb down with the help of your guide and the provided gear.

This cave is situated at the Haitises National Park, a virgin addition of mangrove jungles, historic pirate hideaways and of course the home to the long-extinct Taino Indians who used to occupy the island when Columbus uncovered America. You will tour the depths of the cave for about an hour, occasionally on your hands and knees or swimming across underground rivers which would make for a memorable trip. Travelling the dark corridors of the cave, you would get an opportunity to spot Taino petroglyphs engraved on the walls and wonder at the sight of the huge corridors and spectacular stalactites and stalagmites.
