Bali’s endless flavour: Your Guide to what You should eat!

Bali’s endless flavour: Your Guide to what You should eat!

If you find yourself going on a relentless food rave (the best kind of rave there is), then you would agree that it’s slightly incriminating on how much palatable food there is in Bali. For those of you who have visited the eye-opening wonder, you might know that every turn is a new beginning, and by beginning, I mean the overflowing wave of restaurants & street food stalls the country has to offer. But for those of you who are yet to cross paths with the tones of its flavour; here’s a rundown of the meals that you could bless your taste buds with.

1) Bebek Bengil

Bebek Bengil

A.K.A. smoked duck

Wrapped in Banana leaves and cooked among ember pits, the Bebek Bengil unveils a whole new palette of flavours for you to feast upon. The sheer joy of biting into the tender perfection is beyond words, and while the duck itself is a treat all on its own, the hints of lemongrass, turmeric and ginger make it even better. Trust me, smoked duck doesn’t get better than this!

2) Babi Guling

Babi Guling

A.K.A. your next favourite dish

Note: This is probably Bali’s most renowned dish and yet it’s on number 2 in this list. But I’m writing this so, I guess I’m not surprised. Plus, if you’re expecting sensational content, prepare to be disappointed.

Impromptu quality check aside, the Babi Guling draws its bounty from the myriad of fresh produce and meat used to make it. This heavyweight flavour packer is presented with rice, pork sausages, slow-roasted crispy pork skin and wrapped up in a coconut chilli dressing. While this is a dish that is worth savouring from hour upon hour, it’s also heart attack on a plate, so, for those who have a health condition, I wouldn’t recommend it.

3) Nasi/Mie Goreng

Mie Goreng

Don’t expect an “A.k.A.” on every dish, I can only do so much

This is the kind of dish that gets you hooked for life, just one look at it and bam! Suddenly it’s hard to breathe (figuratively and sometimes, literally) But to elucidate, the Nasi/Mie Goreng is one of the staples of an everyday Balinese diet. It’s so good that you can’t resist it (out of context, this would sound wrong), so, if you intend on trying it, you’re in for a dish that incorporates fried rice mixed with seafood and vegetables while topping the masterpiece off with a fried egg that looks better than half the people I know.

4) Sate Lilit Ikan

Sate Lilit Ikan

Yes, it’s basically skewers. But hear me out, Balinese skewers have garnered a cult following due to the impeccable dimension of its flavours. Especially the fish skewers, that are grilled over charcoal or an open fire. Funnelling the bloom of a result that is savoury enough to crowd each and every one of your taste buds with its sizzling rich flavour. Boasting tones of sweetness, spice and everything that you don’t get in a regular skewer or satay, the Sate Lilit Ikan is basically the best snack in all of Bali.

5) Laklak

Laklak

Why not have a sweet finale? Let’s wrap things up with one of Bali’s most traditional dessert, Laklak! Now, some of you might be a bit disappointed upon learning that the dessert is a reimagined version of the regular pancakes you might eat every day for breakfast. But Bali’s pancakes are different! Don’t knock it out of the picture till you’ve had a chance to taste it. The green-coloured treat lets you witness the decadent depths of sweetness more than any mere pancake could (I’m serious). What’s better? This appreciated dessert is paired up with a number of toppings! With options including condensed milk, ice cream, grated coconut flakes and caramelised sugar syrup.

Flavourful food, beaches beyond imagination and much more await in Bali! If you’re interested in visiting, then we’ll be more than glad to help you find the right deal!
