UK Foreign Office Advises Against Travel to Bolivia as Clashes Rock the Country

Have you been making plans to visit the infamous train graveyard or witness the perfection that resides within Bolivia? Then the Uk Foreign office has something to say about that!

If you’ve been keeping up with the news, then you’ll know that the Uk Foreign Office has issued a warning to avoid travel to Bolivia, after weeks of violent protests in the country.

To back up, the UK Foreign Office released its statement on the 11th of November to warn against all but extremely essential travel to the South American country, since the political unrest poses a greater threat to the safety of both tourists and locals alike. The unrest arose following the resignation of Evo Morales, the former president of Bolivia on November 10th.

The former president’s faithful followers made it a point to make their voice clear on the whole situation and hence, the outburst of protests began as Morales supporters marched the streets to let the new government know about their disapproval and demand that Morales be brought back to power. Unfortunately, two people were killed on Wednesday in a commotion between Bolivian police and the supporters, no fatalities have been reported as of right now or after Wednesday, but this proves that travelling to Bolivia right now is critically unsafe.

If you’re already in Bolivia, then try to contact your airline or travel company before leaving for the airport to confirm whether flights are able to take off or if they are delayed for the time being. Travellers are also heavily encouraged to avoid large crowds and being out in public where the protests are taking place, the FCO further elucidates that even a protest with small numbers may quickly turn violent and to halt any sort of exploration.
