Fiesta de San Isidro.

Fiesta de San Isidro.

The celebrations in tribute of San Isidro provide an exceptional opportunity to view Madrid at its most emblematic. It takes place in May and is a time when the chulapos and goyescos (occupants of the metropolis dress in the customary attire of Madrid) take to the roads to enjoy themselves with music, dancing the classic local dance identified as the chotis and eating classic dishes in tribute of the Saint. This is also the time of the prominent San Isidro bullfighting fiesta.

What you’ll find there.

An exceptional opportunity to find some of the most genuine traditions of Madrid, a chief metropolis which still keeps all its famous customs unbroken. Through the weekend of the holiday you’ll discover concerts and road processions twisting across the metropolitan hub. What’s more, most of the native occupants dress up in the usual chulapo and goyesco costumes, all escorted by the strains of the music of the chotis (the customary dance of Madrid). There are also pursuits for kids throughout the metropolis and popular dancing to relish by night. And the best of all is that many of these events are entirely free.

If you need to find out the precise information of the programme of festive events and all the newest progresses, we suggest that you get in touch with the tourist offices in the metropolis of Madrid.
